STUDY AFTER FRANCIS COATES JONES

2019

Oil on linen

52.5 × 60 cm

Framed

Guide Price: £5,500

In an age dominated by screens and pixelated image, Jake Wood-Evans’ work feels like a welcome antidote. Creating ethereal images that are both unsettling and beautiful, Wood-Evans’ powerful use of light emerges from a loose and instinctive application of paint. Wood-Evans resists the urge to provide easy readings or instantly accessible compositions. He invites the viewer to pause and quietly contemplate a series of multi-layered paintings that denote a common visual language built through our shared history and consumption of art imagery. Wood-Evans’ work has been exhibited at galleries in London and across the UK, as well as international art fairs. His work can be found in private collections internationally, including collections in New York, Malaysia, London, Antwerp and Miami. He was awarded a scholarship from the Royal Academy for classical study at the Prado museum in Madrid.

Terms and Conditions: Please note all works will be available for collection from Wednesday 17 November 2021 at Freedom from Torture offices, 111 Isledon Road, London N7 7JW. The artwork will be safely stored, free of charge until Friday 17 December 2021. Alternatively, Freedom from Torture can help organise national and international delivery of artworks through a third party, to the winner. The winning bidder will be responsible for all delivery costs and will be invoiced directly by the third party.
