Celia Paul was born in 1959 in Trivandrum, India. Her most recent major solo exhibitions include Celia Paul, curated by Hilton Als, at Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, Connecticut (2018), Desdemona for Celia by Hilton, Gallery Met, New York (2015–16); Gwen John and Celia Paul: Painters in Parallel, Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (2012–13); and Abbot Hall, Kendal (2004).Paul has also taken part in group exhibitions all across the world including, Galleri Bo Bjerggard, Copenhagen, Denmark (2019); Rubell Museum, Miami (2019) and Tate Britain, London (2018) Paul’s illustrated autobiography Self-Portrait was published in 2019. It reveals a life truly lived through art. In her short, intimate memoir, Celia Paul moves effortlessly through time in words and images, folding in her past and present selves. Paul’s second book Letters to Gwen John is due to come out in 2022. Paul was awarded Harper’s Bazaar Artist of the Year in 2019.

The artwork will be safely stored, free of charge until Friday 17 December 2021. Alternatively, Freedom from Torture can help organise national and international delivery of artworks through a third party, to the winner. The winning bidder will be responsible for all delivery costs and will be invoiced directly by the third party.
