Maggi Hambling's (b.1945) numerous museum exhibitions in-clude, more recently, the National Portrait Gallery (1983 & 2009), The Hermitage, St Petersburg, Russia (2013), The National Gallery, London (2014), The British Museum, London (2016), Hastings Contemporary, Hastings (2018), CAFA Beijing, China (2019) and Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou, China (2019). The Artist’s public sculpture is both celebrated and controver-sial, including A Conversation with Oscar Wilde, Adelaide Street, London (1998), Scallop, Aldeburgh beach, Suffolk (2003), The Brixton Heron, Brixton, London (2010) and, most recently, A Sculpture for Mary Wollstonecraft, Newington Green, London (2020). This painting, Victim XXXVIII , is from the ongoing series first includ-ed in the installation War Requiem purchased by the Monument Trust for Snape Maltings, where it is on view annually. Hambling was awarded a CBE in 2010.

The artwork will be safely stored, free of charge until Friday 17 December 2021. Alternatively, Freedom from Torture can help organise national and international delivery of artworks through a third party, to the winner. The winning bidder will be responsible for all delivery costs and will be invoiced directly by the third party.
